How to Stop freaking out about graduating
How to Stop freaking out about graduating by Amber Rolfe Change can sometimes be scary. But that doesnât mean it canât be positive⦠If youâre graduating this year, youâre probably already experiencing a rollercoaster ride of feels. On the one hand, you canât wait to be done with essays, coursework and education altogether. But, on the other hand, youâre still not quite ready to give up on all the perks of university life.To help diffuse the emotional panic, here are a few useful tips that could stop you freaking out about graduating: Embrace the unknownOK, so youâre entering a stage of your life that youâve never experienced before. Each step until now has probably been determined by some kind of education (see also: your parents). But now youâre on your own, thereâs no clear path for you to follow. But instead of focussing on your fears, think of your newfound freedom as a positive. Nowâs your chance to try new things, finally do what youâve been studying to do for the past three years, go t ravelling, or just enjoy earning yourself a decent wage. The important thing to remember is that the unknown will teach you a lot. See graduation and what comes after it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and figure out what you actually enjoy doing, and everything else will fall into place naturally.Remember: great things never come from comfort zones. Stop comparing yourself to othersSo your housemates have their supposed âdream careersâ lined up already, and youâre still trying to figure out how to use the library printer.Whatâs right for someone else isnât necessarily right for you, and it might not even turn out to be perfect for them either. And just because you donât have everything figured out already, it doesnât mean your choices will be any less valid.Instead, focus on yourself and what you want. No path is the wrong one at this stage, and if youâd rather search thoroughly before jumping into the first graduate position you see, no oneâs going to judge you .Similarly, if all of your friends are taking a year out to go travelling, and youâd rather concentrate on pursuing something closer to home, thatâs fine too.So stop measuring yourself against everyone else. Just concentrate on whatâs right for you. Donât set your expectations too highThereâs a fine line between optimism and being unrealistic.Even with a degree, many fields are highly competitive, and unless your course provides you with a guaranteed job after you graduate, you may need some extra experience to help you stand out from the crowd. If youâre struggling to find the right role, be proactive and build up your experience whilst you wait for the job you really want. This might mean taking on an internship, volunteering, or even working in a field that isnât totally ideal, but helps build those all-important transferable skills. After all, all experience is good experience. Not only will this demonstrate to employers that youâre a hard worker, itâll also give you the practical skills you need to excel in your dream job.Donât (over)planAlthough it might feel like you need to have your entire life planned out before you graduate â" this definitely isnât the case.If youâre in your final year, browsing job vacancies and assessing your options is a good idea, but donât make it your sole priority at this stage.Because if thereâs one true thing about life after graduation â" itâs that itâs changeable. Finding out what you want to do with your life partly comes from a system of trial and error, and even if you do set a strict plan, you might not even end up sticking to it.To keep a clear head, focus most of your attention on your end of year exams and/or coursework, and make the most of university life while you still can. Youâll have plenty of time to sort your working life out after you graduate.Remember: it will get betterThe post-university blues can be hard to beat â" but it will get better.Once youâve had time to sett le into your new situation, think about your options, try new things, and inevitably make some (helpful) mistakes â" youâll see graduation as a positive experience. As an example, think back to the upcoming months before university. You were probably scared. Excited too, but fear was definitely a predominant factor before you realised it was a necessary step. And the same thing will happen after you graduate.Youâll learn and grow from graduating just like you did from going to university â" and, it might surprise you to realise how much you actually did learn in those three yearsâ¦Still looking for your perfect graduate role? Resume Maker - Learn How a Resume Maker Can Help You Get the Job You Want
Resume Maker - Learn How a Resume Maker Can Help You Get the Job You WantIf you are looking for a resume maker professional then you have to be very careful about what you choose. There are many to choose from so you need to know which one will suit your needs best. One of the first things you need to do is decide on what type of professional resume maker you need. There are many of them out there and it is all up to you to decide which one will work best for you.You can use a resume maker to help you improve on the skills you possess or you can use it to help you find a job for someone else with a particular job role. It can help you write your resume by assigning different sections based on each individual resume. There are four different sections that are usually used and they are the personal section, the job section, the education section and the job history section. The resume maker will always start from the personal section and work its way through the job section. It will alwa ys end up at the education section and then it will look for the experience section to help you further your search for employment. The resume maker will put an emphasis on your professional achievements and skills. It will highlight those areas where you think you stand out from others. You need to be careful about the resume maker because not all of them can be trusted and some can only produce garbage.Always remember that it is not important what your resume says but how it says it and the impression it gives off. Many people feel that the resume maker is just another bunch of people who are only interested in how much money you make but that is not the case at all.The resume maker can actually work with your resume to help you prepare it to get an interview. They can help you by focusing your attention on the key points and in some cases it may even be used to help get you an interview. It can be a way to stand out from the rest of the applicants because they can focus on your st rengths instead of others weaknesses.Remember that a resume maker is just there to help you get an interview and to help you get hired for the position you are applying for. They can assist you with your resume by helping you hone your skills and let you focus on what you have to offer the company you are interviewing for.

Complementing Core Competency Strengthens Growth - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Complementing Core Competency Strengthens Growth - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Getting started in business is overwhelming to say the least. There are so many have to learn components. Its not just about your core service, but also about business development and communication to attract interest in your services. For most people, they are horrified to learn they need to become a salesperson too. And for non-techies, the horror is about dealing with undesired technology surprises, and keeping abreast of the latest and greatest software. To say the least, entrepreneurship is one of the challenging undertakings of all. In order to rise to the top of all the people in your chosen field, there is more to tackle just when you think you have a grasp of what is needed to be successful. As you finally seem to get a handle on the basics of what you need to know, new thought and new ways of conducting business are discovered. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to get caught up on the âneed to knowâ and then push yourself to tune into the âwhyâ as well as new ideas to be ahead of the curve. This is one key endeavor that will help you to be seen as an expert in your field. A good way to accomplish this is for you to choose topics that appeal to you most. Then set a budget for getting the help you need with the remaining areas that are necessary but in which you have zero interest. The following questions may be helpful before you go down your next path building business: What has been your most successful strategy to date? Which venue of all the services offered, do you enjoy the most? What knowledge do you lack that could provide a more comprehensive service for your clientele? Once you come to realize your preferred work, take on the additional task of educating yourself on complementary topics. For example, sales, marketing and public relations overlap in some areas yet are distinct disciplines. By educating yourself on each discipline complementary to your core business, you gain a 360 degree perspective. Additionally, you begin to understand the how and why strategies work well, especially when they are used together. Once comfortable with this new knowledge a higher level perspective will have been gained. The ability to communicate to a greater variety of subjects will attract wider and larger audiences. This contributes directly to business growth. A side benefit of all this education is that your personal brand grows and fully blossoms. Suddenly you are aware, more than ever, of your capabilities and are motivated to continue to expand upon them. You grow into becoming your own person. This then translates well into a more powerful branding program. One added step to become a true leader is to teach the best of what you know to those who yet have much to learn. One other distinct advantage to gaining the wider perspective is that when the economic markets go through their ups and downs, your added knowledge will help stabilize what you have in place. Persevering to make a difference in your business and community will see increased recognition and opportunity contributing to the very Smooth Sale!

5 Simple Ways To Be More Present - Classy Career Girl
5 Simple Ways To Be More Present During my not-so-great moments (ie. meltdowns), it wasnât pretty. And you know what? It still happens from time to time! But, much less because I practicing how to be more present helped me find that stillness when my overwhelmed brain runs amok with all kinds of thoughts. Years ago, I went through a series of personal professional life challenges. Though most would describe me as an upbeat and down-to-earth galdeep down, I was miserable. I tried everything but kept feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and hopeless. In the midst of anxiety, anger and bouts of depression, I kept changing jobs, moving locationsyet nothing seemed to work. At the same time, I noticed how others were able to be so resilient as they worked through their own struggles. I began a quest to observe and learn from hundreds of inspiring women with amazing comeback stories. With the help of supportive friends, mentors and family members, I kept an open mind to help me see each day with a silver lining. During yoga and Reiki training, I learned effective techniques on how to reduce stress on a mental, physical, emotional, and energetic level. I devoured motivational books, inspirational podcasts, and filled journals with notes from psychology journals and moving testimonials. Each time I applied what I learned, I noticed that I started getting my bounce back faster whenever life threw another curve ball! With an open mind, I figured out what worked and tossed out what didnât. The following strategies have been useful for me when getting through some extremely stressful days, whether it was at the office or at home. With time, I was then able to see more and more silver linings throughout my day. The more you practice how to be more present, the easier it becomes and youâll gradually start to notice a greater sense of peace too! 5 Simple Ways To Be More Present Take a breath: Notice your breath when you inhale and exhale. Consider what you are doing now: Where are your thoughts? Emotions? Sense of time? Are you rushed or relaxed? Become a witness: Have awareness of what you are doing. Let the rest go: Whatever is not there in that moment, just let go. Come back to the breath: Whether itâs distractions or scattered thoughts, simply come back to the breath. Can you start the day off with taking a moment to be present? How about incorporating it into your morning routine? How about during your commute? I hope this helps you achieve more peace and balance in your life and incorporate energy work when you tackle your biggest frustrations.

The Most Important Decisions You Can Make (But Probably Arent Making)
The Most Important Decisions You Can Make (But Probably Arenât Making) When it comes to identifying the most important decision you can make in a day, most of us get it wrong. Thereâs no shortage of candidates to choose from because most of us have too many decisions to make each day. But most of us lack the time to identify the most important one(s) because weâre busy and stretched too thin between work, home and all the other things it takes to make a life. The trouble is when you miss out on making the most important decisions (and making them well), your career and life can go badly off course. Worse yet, you can end up feeling miserable despite all the things you have achieved. So, letâs look at the decisions youâre facing. What Decisions Are You Facing? Some of them have far-reaching consequences, like whether to start a family, change jobs, move to a new country or start a new business line. These are often one-time decisions that we make consciously and deliberately. And rightly so. Others are seemingly less significant but recurring, like what to order for lunch, what to wear, or what brand of toothpaste to buy. Youâve probably created routines for many of these. Like my friend and former CEO, Craig, who always orders the same thing for lunch when heâs dining out (by the way, itâs a Caesarâs Salad with Chicken). Putting those daily decisions on âautopilotâ is useful because our brains can only make so many good decisions in a day. Youâre right not to use up your decision-making capacity on the ordinary things you can turn into good habits, like exercising or meditating before going to work. Or having shortcut rules for unimportant things that wonât move the needle for your life either way, like choosing the same brand of pasta, peanut butter or detergent when youâre at the store. But the problem is this: the most important daily decisions are the ones most of us donât even think about. When you arenât aware that thereâs a decision to be made, itâs as though youâre living on autopilot. Thatâs when you run the risk of ending up in a different place than the one you intended. The Most Important Kinds of Decisions The most important kinds of decisions you can make are about how you want to live your life rather than what you should do in a particular instance or which activities or things to choose. This is about identifying your guiding principles and making the conscious decision to pursue them every day. This in turn will put you in the best frame of mind to make all your other decisions wisely, show up at your best every day and achieve the aspirations you hold most dear. The most important kinds of decisions you can make are about how you want to live your life rather than what you should do in a particular instance or which activities or things to choose. You Get to Decide Instead of leaving things on autopilot, remember that you get to decide. So when you get up in the morning, decide what kind of day youâre going to have. While you canât control the situations that come up, you can control how you respond to them. When you get up in the morning, decide what kind of day youâre going to have. While you canât control the situations that come up, you can control how you respond to them. To prime the pump for thinking about the truly important decisions that will make your life better, here are the three I remind myself to make every morning. As you read them, see what comes to mind for you. 1. Be kind to myself This means paying attention to my self-talk to make sure itâs encouraging and positive. When Iâm on autopilot, I tend to do a lot of judging, âshould-ingâ and criticizing. Thatâs why I have to remind myself every day to come from a place of appreciation and generosity when Iâm talking to myself. And that helps me extend the same kindness to others. 2. Focus on what matters most As a âdo-erâ and achiever, I tend to get hooked on producing outcomes even if itâs alphabetizing a list that doesnât need to be in any particular order or making a spreadsheet look beautiful when itâs for internal use only. So âfocus on what matters mostâ is a reminder to put people and relationships before tasks and accomplishments. And within the tasks I take on, itâs a reminder to focus on the ones that lead to my bigger aspirations rather than unnecessary distractions or someone elseâs agenda for me. 3. Enjoy every day As a recovering workaholic, I still regularly forget to find the joy in life and to have fun. Or at least get in a belly laugh once in a while! Thatâs why I added this daily decision, which is inspired by my father (who also works a lot). As I listened to my fatherâs talk at an event marking his retirement where over 100 of his colleagues gathered to celebrate his accomplishments, what struck me was his comment, âI enjoyed every dayâ. Iâve known my father all my life but have never heard him say this. Today, my father is a revered scientist, mentor and role model and a giant in his field. But along the way, heâs had his share of pressures, like starting out as an immigrant with no connections, raising a young family on an assistant professorâs pay, securing grant money to support his research lab. But over a decades-long career, he had found a way to enjoy every day. Partly because he was doing work he loves, but mostly because he made that his choice. What Will You Decide? How you live your life is a choice. So resist the temptation to take the easy way out whether thatâs following the âto doâ list others have made for you or letting events carry you along on autopilot. Instead, make a conscious decision on how you want to live every day. Write it down every morning to remind yourself before you get carried along by the busy-ness that life throws at you. Each day of your life is too precious to leave to chance. How you live your life is a choice. Resist the temptation to follow the âto doâ list others have made for you or let events carry you along on autopilot. Whatâs the most important decision you want to start making consciously today and how will that improve your life? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Things to Do to Let Your Perfect Job Find You - CareerAlley
Things to Do to Let Your Perfect Job Find You - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Although a prolonged recession left many college graduates and job seekers feeling timid and gun shy when it came to seeking employment, the future has become increasingly brighter in the past two years, allowing individuals to once again search for and obtain jobs in fields that leave them feeling challenged, appreciated and satisfied. Economic troubles aside, many job seekers face an uphill struggle when it comes to matching their passion with their occupation. With an abundance of skilled candidates for a variety of in-demand professions, the competition for dream jobs remains incredibly fierce. So what can be done, then, to match ambitious, eager professionals with the career of their dreams? The solution is simple: let your dream job come to you! Weve compiled a few tips below that can help you stake your claim in a diverse and fascinating job market. STRATEGY NO. 1: Make Yourself (And Your Skills) Known! Social media is more than just a collection of travel news and party pictures. Websites such as LinkedIn provide users with the tools they need to advertise their unique strengths and abilities to a massive audience of friends, fellow job seekers, headhunters and business owners. Using LinkedIns powerful networking tools, individuals can quickly and easily establish communication with professionals in their preferred industry, allowing them to gain a clear and concise picture of the employment outlook for top companies and desirable positions. If a position opens that you are interested in, you will stand a much better chance of snagging the job if the company is familiar with your credentials before your C.V. and cover letter arrive. They may even offer the position to you directly! STRATEGY NO. 2: Be Attentive Nothing will disappoint a potential employer more than a generic C.V. and cover letter, devoid of any real evidence that youve done your research before applying. Instead of adopting this tired, conventional route towards possible success, you can catch the eye of the worlds top employers with a little bit of homework and a lot of tenacity. Gone are the days when an individual could snare a generic job that would last their entire career. Instead, many employers are seeking individuals to fill specific roles and accomplish detailed tasks within a defined time frame. Passion, persistence and an entrepreneurial spirit have become equally important to a college degree. If you can convince a company that they cant live without you, then your dream job will definitely come to you. STRATEGY NO. 3: Be Attentive A surefire way to let your dream job slip through your fingers is to allow yourself to settle for second-best. If youre committed to propelling yourself into your ideal job, be prepared to hustle for it. Use all available tools at your disposal to make contact with potential employers and exhibit your track record of success while still remaining polite and professional. Whether its a job fare, LinkedIn search or online advertisement, learn to see the potential opportunity in all endeavours. Contacts you make through any one of these processes could prove beneficial down the line. STRATEGY NO. 4: Be Realistic If your degree is in Russian Literature, dont expect to pass the examinations to become an astronaut. Part of locating and snagging your dream job is creating a realistic path towards success. If an employer sees that youve approached the application process as a mature professional instead of a short-sighted, overly idealistic enthusiast, chances are good that youre going to land an interview. Make companies come to you because of your maturity and potential worth. Not only will you find a position that satisfies you, but youll also develop a collection of professional contacts and references that will continue to support you throughout your career.
